Bodybuilders: Wearing it Right, Wearing it Tight

There are two kinds of bodybuilding clothing. One is your regular training outfit which is pretty much the same as clothing for any other strenuous physical activity – it is comfortable, breathable and stylish. There are specially designed tops, lowers and even shoes to help maximize your comfort while working out.

The other is your competition outfit which you wear to enhance your appearance and show off your physique. Plenty of companies have now sprung up in response to the growing demand for both types of bodybuilding clothing and before you go out shopping-till-you-pop there are a few things to keep in mind.

The first is that, no matter your age, gender or size, your outfit should suit you and only you. Getting something just because it looked amazing on some really beefed up guy, or a really shapely woman, at your gym does not mean it will necessarily suit you the same way. Wear something in which you look good and feel great. And when you’re working out it shouldn’t itch or constrict your movement in any way.

The main thing while you’re working out is comfort and motivation. Sometimes this means, for instance, that a built guy will be wearing a sleeveless shirt or a tank of some sort. This is because this is one of the most comfortable outfits to do such a strenuous workout in and also because while you’re working out, looking great to yourself really helps motivate you. So don’t shy away from wearing clothes that keep you happy and comfortable.

When deciding on a competition outfit, make sure the size, the color and the style all flatter you and bring out the best in you. Pick a color that will set off your bronzed skin tone. If you’re a woman, you’ll most likely be wearing a swimsuit of some kind; get one with a high thigh cut to show off your legs and make sure the straps cross either really high or really low at the back. Wear heels to show off your calves and other leg muscles.

If you’re a man you’ll want to buy a bottom that shows off your hip cuts really nicely as well as your rear. Both men and women need to make sure the color is not so bright that it distracts the judges from your awesome physique. Also you may need to order your in advance just to get the fit and style perfect.

The other main thing is to hunt around a little before buying anything, especially online. Cherry Bombs is a great manufacturer of both posing suits and regular workout suits. Gym Gear also makes a wide range of training apparel for both men and women. There is also a brand called Wear2Gym that makes great t-shirts with ‘attitude’ logos and apart from that a quick search online should get you exactly what you’re looking for.
